The Dark Horse is our Dark Knight

Motorsports are here to save the day 🤘

Welcome to the weekend!

While the auto industry continues to wrestle with the hangover known as ‘EV adoption’, it seems the motorsport departments are drinking Red Bull and partying on through the night.

Funds keep flowing and as a result, we get great new things - like the all-new Ford Mustang Dark Horse R 🤘

Billed as a ‘turn-key’ race car that slots in below a GT4 racer (which is also coming soon), the new Mustang is a great addition to the racing ecosystem. The car will be priced around $145,000 and a season in their upcoming single make series will be roughly around $250,000 (making it fairly affordable, relatively speaking 😅)

So, while we might be annoyed at various decisions from the auto industry over the past decade, an investment into motorsport is always something we support. After all, having an American OEM ladder is only expanding the talent pool on this side of the pond. The Mustang Dark Horse R represents the first step, the upcoming Mustang GT4 will be the second, and the Mustang GT3, which also debuted earlier this year, is just what you need to win Daytona 😉

Charles Leclerc gets pole position in Spa !

No no.. Fortunes haven’t turned at Ferrari. Max Verstappen was yet again the pacesetter but since he’s taken another gearbox, the Dutchman receives a five-place grid penalty 🤣

Click here to catch up on the action. The funniest caption we saw on social media was “Leclerc getting pole without getting pole is the most Leclerc thing to happen to Leclerc in the history of Leclerc” 😭

News Racers Can Use

A rising tide lifts all boats

Last weekend’s IndyCar double-header at Iowa was a hit in the TV ratings, putting the series on pace for its most-viewed season in seven years! And NASCAR’s Pocono ratings were strong as well. Despite the competition from F1, the series seems to be holding its own and slowly starting to grow again 💪

NASCAR, IMSA and the WEC are all showing positive signs of growth as well, demonstrating that the popularity of motorsport is not a one-trick F1 pony. As JFK was quoted as saying, “a rising tide lifts all boats”, and the motorsport boat is looking pretty robust.

Are their challenges ahead? Absolutely. Sustainability is and will continue to be the primary challenge to the growth of motorsport, but none of these series are ignoring this factor. All are actively researching and embracing technologies that will enhance the sustainability of motorsport as well as reduce it’s carbon footprint.

There is a lot to look forward to over the next few years as the competition heats up both on and off the track. Good times..
