Cybertruck 📐

It's here, it's real and it's stainless steel 💪

Happy Cybertruck!

Tesla has officially delivered the first several Cybertrucks to customers who have long awaited this day. We’re happy to say this mythical unicorn is here, it’s real and it’s stainless steel 💪

Much like Model S was ‘a whole new thing’, the Cybertruck is an engineering marvel and here’s some quick stats to chew on:

  • The exoskeleton design gives it a torsional rigidity greater than a McLaren P1 (forget everything you know about driving trucks)

  • It’s faster down the ¼ mile than a Porsche 911 while towing a Porsche 911 (click here to see for yourself)

  • The Tesla engineered stainless steel alloy is scratch proof, dent-proof, rust-proof and stops subsonic bullets

  • It also beats the record holding Ford F350 in a truck pull (by a lot)

And if that wasn’t enough, it’s shorter than most trucks but has a longer bed with a tonneau cover that can support the weight of an adult. It’s got drive by wire four-wheel-steering and turns on a dime.

For a company that doesn’t advertise (although shareholders did just vote to start advertising 😏) the Cybertruck is a rolling billboard of the future.

As we’ve reached the end of the season, we’ll be removing F1 news from our newsletter for the time being.

Hopefully we’ve been able to give you some decent insights and occasional laughter with this column, and we look forward to the next season with great anticipation.

Apparently Mercedes is planning on changing everything about their current car, so let’s see if that helps the boys bring the fight to Maximum Verstappen!

Current and Potential Motorsport Litigation

The motorsport litigation docket is growing and the lawyer in me is always fascinated with developments. Here are a few cases (or potential cases) to keep an eye on.

Former Scuderia Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa and his team of lawyers has launched a legal action in a bid to recognize Massa as the true Champion of the 2008 Formula One World Driver’s Championship. They are arguing that the results of the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix be considered null and void thereby making him the true champion. They have launched this action after former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone admitted that he and then FIA President Max Mosely knew of the cheating scandal known as “crashgate” yet did nothing. Ecclestone denies this.

In a contract-related dispute, ESPN has reported that two-time IndyCar champion Alex Palou has conceded in court documents that he breached his contract with McLaren Racing when he decided to stay at Chip Ganassi Racing instead of abiding by his contract to race for McLaren. “The bulk of Palou’s response focuses on McLaren’s loss of revenue claims and attempts to mitigate what Palou will owe in damages.”

In his latest Green Notebook, F1 journalist Joe Saward mentioned another possible legal case that the FIA may have to deal with. Apparently rejected F1 bidder Hitech Grand Prix are looking at launching legal action against the federation regarding the new team selection process.

We do not know the nature of the claim, but any legal action would likely require the FIA to provide evidence of how the Andretti decision was made, and what made it different from the Hitech application. The word is that Hitech’s package included a commitment to pay a $600 million dilution fee if required to do so by new commercial agreements. Hitech will also probably argue that its project was more advanced than that of Andretti (which was certainly a rumour at the time) and that it had a wind tunnel model of a car running in the summer and had an engine deal with Mercedes.”

Finally, a group of FTX investors have launched three proposed class actions in Florida federal court last Monday against Major League Baseball, Mercedes-Benz’s Formula One racing team, and a global sports and media talent company over their previous involvement with and promotion of the now-defunct cryptocurrency exchange.

Court is now in session.
